The shop is all sparkling clean.  Ceiling vents/pipes/lights cleaned and the floor redone with stain and  new top coats.  Yummy yarn is coming in every day.  It’s time for Spring/Summer Knitting and you will LOVE the new yarns that are arriving.

We look forward to 2012 being a turn around year. We have seen it already! It’s hard to believe we are starting our 3rd year February 1st.

We will be working on our floor mid February and will be closed for a few days. Dates not yet decided, but will post them on the calendar. But don’t worry. We won’t be without yarn!  Another reason you need to come to our 2nd Anniversary Party…We’ll keep you busy while the shop is closed !!! :)

Holiday Hours:

Serendipity will be closing at 2:00 on Christmas Eve and will be closed Dec 25 and 26. Also we will close at 2:00 on New Years Eve and will be closed January 1 and 2.

Beginning January 1, 2012 Serendipity will be closed on Mondays.

 We will still be opened Sunday… January 8, 15, 22, , and of course Jan 29 for Super Bowl Knitting. Noon-4:00.

New yarn coming in daily.

Just received an order of Marble Chunky,, and it’s gone out the door already. Another shipment scheduled for lst of next week..with more NEW colors!. Also ordered more Joy and Lacey. Dream needles have been here and gone, so have ordered more again. :) We have been assured (finally) the new PINK Knitkits will be arriving before Christmas. Have been waiting for these for months..Please let us know if you want us to reserve one for you. We know they will go fast.

I’m starting to fill the calendar with classes for the New Year, so make sure to check the website often.

Serendipity Yarn Shoppe is very proud to introduce a wonderful new line of yarn created by our own “Local Designer”, Abi Hutchison of High Prairie Fibers..Letts, Iowa.

In our quest to find unique yarns made in the United States, we found the perfect addition to our collection right in our own back yard.

Known to area fiber people for her spinning and felting fibers, Abi is now creating yarns for knitters and weavers. Her new ring spinner is creating a variety of “Cottage Spun” yarns that are minimally processed to preserve the unique character of each fleece. Bobbins are filling  quickly, so our shelves will soon be packed to the brim with new inventory.

Choose from breed specific yarns with individual character:

Blends of wool, silk, alpaca and combinations that will surprise you! Puffy chunky, soft and fine,  exotic blends and long wools with weight and drape. Natural muted colors and wild hand painted. Yarn comes from local flocks and the best of fiber from far away.

Also…National Spin In Public Day is September 17.  Bring your spinning wheel/drop spindle and enjoy a day of spinning.

During this last year and a half we have all come to realize there is more to knitting than picking up a couple sticks, a ball of yarn and creating the sweater we see in a book that really doesn’t look that hard ! Or sitting down at an antique spinning wheel, not knowing if all the parts are attached, wool in hand, no knowledge of the concept of spinning, and wondering why we can spin usable yarn…

Serendipity can help in so many ways. Our well trained staff (Marie, Fonda, Sonya, Mary and Francy) can help you in all aspects of the fiber world. You know, we cannot live by bread alone: we need fiber and LOTS OF IT!!! Visit Serendipity and take a walk through our world of fiber. Our Fiber expert (Abi of High Prairie Fiber-Letts, Iowa) will lead you on a journey that will make your head spin. She has been known, as well, to give a little push in a direction you never thought you would ever go. We are blessed to have Abi as such an important part of our Fiber Family..At the moment we are in a “Felted Flower Whirlwind”. We don’t seem to have enough hours in a day to be as creative as we want to be.  We are keeping Abi so busy in her studio she isn’t sleeping. Made me smile this afternoon after she restocked our pre-felts and roving, thinking we were stocked for a few weeks, and most of it sold less than an hour after she left for home. And that’s a good thing :)

New yarns are coming in every day. Serendipity prides itself in carrying a wide selection of US Made Yarns. We all know how important it is to support our US companies both large and small. In my travels I have found many wonderful sources of small yarn mills, and can’t wait to get inventory from each and every one of them. FYI…We will be carrying a very special line of yarn/fibers in a few months…Check back on the website often in the weeks to come and get updates on the arrival date. 

 YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS THIS…IT’S BIG!!!

Along with supporting our US mills, Serendipity knitters are busy doing charity knitting projects which are very dear to our hearts. Knitting stocking hats for our Troops give us all a great sense of pride knowing in a small way, we are sending gifts from home. We have sent 100′s in the past 1-1/2 years. Recently we have been introduced to a new charity…knitting for mariners who travel on large lakes, seas, and barges on US rivers. Living on the banks of the Mississippi River, we see barges traveling up and down the river just a block from our shop. As we sit on the deck enjoying the summer days and watching the river flow by we tend to forget the ones who live on those barges and work in all weather conditions…sun, rain, wind, ice and snow.

We still take donations of preemie and baby hats. Just drop your items off at the shop and we will get them delivered to the area hospitals for you.

Our latest classes. (Fair Isle Christmas Stockings, Beginning Crochet, and Top Down Sweater) are coming to an end. We will be scheduling new classes after school begins. We know summer is a difficult time to schedule classes, so will begin again in October. Check our class schedule on the website often. If you have a class you are interested in, please contact us and we will do our best to arrange one.

Remember our Spin-In..”Play Day” workshops every Monday 10-noon. Bring your spinning wheel, drop spindle, fiber, etc and join us as we enjoy showing new projects and bouncing ideas off each other. Stay longer, have lunch at Elly’s and spend the afternoon also. Nothing says you have to leave at noon. Our Spinning Clinic/Class schedule will begin again November 5th.
